Us West Aussies are living in a mask-less world once again! We can continue to head to concerts, the footy and more crucially… the pub! Hopefully there are no more snap lockdowns that come into effect (every time I mention this we seem to be treated to another emergency McGowan press conference) but, if the past few lockdowns have taught us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t take being able to freely head to these places (particularly the pub) for granted!

This week, I’ve taken a leaf out of Darrly Kerrigan’s book and decided to provide you with my list of favoured pubs and restaurants based on… “Location, location, location!”

Let’s go!

Whitelakes Brewing

We’re kicking things off with Whitelakes Brewing!

Perched in the prime location on Mandurah Road in Baldivis, Whitelakes overlooks the wonderfully picturesque Lake Walyungup! A white salt lake that stretches over 430ha and almost has an extraterrestrial feel to it when you’re walking across it!

The beautiful brewhouse and brew deck at Whitelakes is the perfect place to soak up some sun on those colder autumn days and with an exquisite menu on offer, punters can treat themselves to a spectacular range of incredible share boards or hearty Aussie mains! Plus this kid-friendly venue and grassed area out front means even the little ones are catered for the big day out.

Whitelakes Brewing is also home to its own range of craft beers that are brewed and tapped on location. Most excitingly it’s also the home of the Dingo brewing production. That’s right! You know – where the sausage (or in this case the lager) gets made is at the beautiful Baldivis brewery.

So no matter if you’re a summer ale specialist, a pale ale pro or a dark lager loving legend, Whitelakes Brewing Co is your one stop shop for great food, award winning brews and incredibly picturesque views.

Be sure to head down, check it out and make sure to tell ‘em Dingo sent ya!

Oceans27

Second up is the beautiful beach side location that is Oceans27 in Alkimos!

This spot is fantastic to sneak up to on a weekend or turn a late lunch into a beautiful sunset session as you overlook the pristine beach and sunset combo.

Oceans27 overlooks the picturesque Shorehaven Beach and has a menu that boasts some of the best European and Asian flavours going around! Tie all that international worldly goodness with a pint of your home grown local legend’s lager and it sounds to me like you’ve got the best of both worlds!

Entertainment is never an issue at this coastal kingdom either – with some of Perth’s finest live artists and DJ’s featuring regularly, you’ll find Ocean27 provides a lovely atmosphere with an unreal panoramic seascape that will have you feel like you’re lapping it up on a Hawain bay!

Plus Ocean27 is PET FRIENDLY – yeah that’s right even Dingo gets a gig at Oceans27! Ticking boxes left right and centre! You’ve got to love that!

Hotel Rottnest

Number three takes us overseas! Well sort of… over-ocean might be a better more accurate description.

We turn our attention to the newly refurbished Hotel Rottnest! On the shores of Thompson Bay sits the beautiful island getaway spot!  Beachfront accommodation lets punters stay a while and get the chance to take in all there is to do at Rottnest with a level of style and sophistication that will have you feeling like the kings and queens of the Island.

If you’re just popping in for a cheeky meal – the bar is the perfect place to head! With a range of seasonal menu options, a few locally inspired mains and a great range of beers on tap, Hotel Rottnest is definitely a go-to spot for anyone visiting the island, be it for a day, weekend or a whole week!

Bit harder for us Dingos to get across to the island – boat and plane travel doesn’t really get the job done for us mob, plus the quokkas don’t love us roaming around on their turf. But for all of you two-legged legends, make Hotel Rotto your first lunch spot next time you get the chance to head ‘over-ocean’.

The Sandbar

Overlooking the beautiful Scarborough Beach is The Sandbar! A perfect place to perch up for a pizza and a pint, bask in the warm Autumn sun and take in the coastal environment that is Scarborough Beach!

Did you know the ‘Sandbar’ name actually came from a punter! The owner of the joint, Ben Randall hosted a competition – where punters submitted their suggestion as to what their new ‘local’ was going to be named for the chance to win 6 months worth of VIP treatment at the new establishment. I must have missed the memo about this one – because I reckon between the pack and I we would have enough brain power to come up with something truly re’barkable’ – see what I did there.

Speaking of VIP treatment – WA’s favourite Dingo always has an invite to the Sandbar, with the iconic white cans available over the bar, so make sure you get me involved in your next night out in Scarbs!

Bib & Tucker

On the bank of Leighton Beach sits this beautifully positioned modern Australian dining restaurant delightful named Bib & Tucker. It combines the intimacy of a little venue with the vast limitless views of the horizon over the Indian Ocean.

Now Bib & Tucker is right up the pack’s alley – with a ranging variety of food and cuisines to please the whole crowd, including a delicious range of wood fired pizzas. A menu item that is quickly becoming considered an ‘Australian cuisine.’ B & T boast a ‘fresh is best’ approach, providing some very flash modern fusion and a range of elite cooking and flavour filling techniques including smoking, pickling and wood firing.

Bib & Tucker’s sets an Olympic standard it’s athletic owners are very proud of! That’s right the big 3 – Eamon Sullivan, Steve Hooker and Jamie Dwyer are all owners and ‘official taste testers’ of the place! Open for breaky, lunch or dinner there’s no excuse for you to not throw on your bib and rip into some great beach front tucker.

One thing these hot spots have in common is that Dingo is always invited. Grab a pint or our famous white can behind the bar at any of the wonderful establishments. So no matter where you decide to head this weekend, just make sure that you make the most of it! God forbid we get stuck in another snap lockdown and are left pining for days of having one of the wood again…
